How is BEAUTIFUL used in ASL?
BEAUTIFUL is compliment vocabulary: scenery, faces, days, ideas. Expressive signs like this one invite expressive delivery, and the face sets the intensity. A politely appreciative BEAUTIFUL and an awestruck one are different sentences. Compliments are also low-risk practice for beginners, which makes this sign a favorite early acquisition.
