When do you use the sign SIT?

SIT shows up in classrooms, at dinner tables, and in polite invitations to make yourself comfortable. Beginners meet it early because instructions in an ASL classroom are given in ASL, and sitting down is usually the first one. It also earns a place in stories, where seating a character is often the first step in setting a scene.

It belongs to Lesson 34 of Book 1.
