How do you sign βDeafβ in ASL?
DEAF: DEAF in American Sign Language (ASL) identifies a person who does not hear, and names the community and culture built around signed language. The video and animated demonstration below show the sign.

What does DEAF mean in ASL?
DEAF is core cultural vocabulary, not just an audiological label. It distinguishes Deaf community membership, appears in introductions, and marks institutions like Deaf schools and Deaf clubs. Learning its respectful use is part of learning the language.
It is Lesson 1 vocabulary in the challenge, among the very first signs.
